Connection, support, and affirming the significant ministry of children’s ministry leaders and volunteers were the focus of a recent Children’s Leaders Network Day, held at Harvest Church of Christ in Auburn.
“The day emerged from engaging with children’s leaders in our network over the past 12 months who expressed the desire for both connection and training. I was so delighted to see a group of these key leaders in our network enjoying and engaging with the opportunity,” said Anne Simpson, Network Ministry Co-ordinator.
Four key speakers—Nicole Briggs (Coast Community Church), Linda Salem (Kingsford Church of Christ), Di Falkenmire (Connect Church), and Meikle Bennett (Southern Cross Kids Camp)—provided valuable insights and learnings from their extensive experience in children’s ministry to the group of 17 leaders representing 8 churches from across the CCNSWACT network.
“I think the collective wisdom in the room was extremely humbling, and the passion to share the gospel with children was invigorating,” said Linda, a clinical psychologist and long-term leader in Children’s ministry in her local church. “I was amazed at how the general focus and feedback was around supporting the family and to pray continually for families, especially parents, who have the blessed work of nurturing and growing their children in their spiritual journey. I think the challenge for all is creating spaces within our gatherings to be inclusive of families throughout their seasons of growth and change.”
Interactive discussions and informal networking created opportunities for leaders to share their experiences and exchange resource ideas. SYNC Camp Director Jess Love also encouraged the group about the network’s intention to re-engage with this vital camping ministry for children, inviting them to a “Come & See” morning at camp on Wednesday, October 2.
“Fellowship around the lunch table was also priceless, and having the opportunity to encourage younger leaders, as well as be encouraged by their commitment, created such a sense of hope that the Lord has got it all in His great big hands!” Linda said.
Next week SYNC Camp is inviting kids ministry leaders to join a Come and See open session on Wednesday morning. This is a great chance to get a taste of the fun and impact that camp leaders get to make. If you’re considering being involved next year, why not drop in? It’s free for the morning!
