Position Details

The Chaplain to Wyong Hospital, located on the Central Coast of NSW, is a full-time ecumenical role – responsible for the delivery of high-level quality spiritual and pastoral support to patients, families, and staff at Wyong Hospital. As such, the chaplain is part of a multi-faith civil chaplaincy team within the Central Coast Local Health District (CCLHD), and the churches of Christ in NSW/ACT.

The churches of Christ in NSW/ACT is a non-creedal network of churches committed to a Biblically based and biblically expressed approach to the Christian faith.

The chaplain is expected to have well-developed pastoral skills. A background in chaplaincy including training in Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) is highly desirable.

The successful candidate must complete the appropriate level of CPE training within 12 months of appointment if they have not already done so, and in accord the tenets and ethos of the churches of Christ in NSW/ACT.

The successful candidate will:

  • Demonstrate high spiritual integrity as a practising Christian.
  • Be accountable to both –
    • the ministerial code of conduct and policies of the churches of Christ in NSW/ACT and
    • the codes and policies of the CCLHD.

The following list represents attributes which churches of Christ in NSW/ACT chaplains must demonstrate a basic level of knowledge and be committed to continual growth in their understanding of

  • Gospel of Christ.
  • Personal and spiritual formation and the needs of a person as they progress through the stages of their life.
  • Ability to
    • Inspire hope and bring encouragement,
    • Respond with compassion and sensitivity to an individual’s spiritual needs,
    • Lead, support and manage pastoral care volunteers,
    • Able to minister and care for people of other faiths and those who profess no faith, and
    • Listen actively with empathy and insight.

Candidates must

Hold a:

  • Diploma or Degree level qualifications relevant to the theology and practice of chaplaincy.
  • Complete CPE training in accord with the requirements of the NSW Civil Chaplaincies Advisory Committee (CCAC).

Have:

  • At least five years’ experience in chaplaincy or pastoral care.
  • A current Drivers Licence.
  • An intermediate level of computer and internet skills using Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and

Have skills and experience appropriate to an organisational setting including:

  • A high level of interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills,
  • Problem-solving skills, and
  • Negotiation skills: and

Hold or acquire a current:

  • National Police Check.
  • Working with Children Check
  • Creating Safe Spaces’ Certificate.
  • COVID-19 and other vaccinations in accord with the policies of the CCLHD.

Remuneration is based on recommended minister’s remuneration guidelines of the churches of Christ in NSW/ACT.
