About Us

Common Groundz Community Café is ministry of Pathways Community Church and has been serving the Lalor Park community since 2008. Our café is more than just place to grab a coffee; it’s a hub for relationships, outreach, and support. We are committed to creating a warm, inclusive place where everyone feels valued and connected. We create space for people to gather, grow, and give back. We work in partnership with local organisations to run projects to support our diverse community. We provide training and work experience for students and volunteers eager to develop their hospitality skills.

The Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic Missional Cafe Manager with a heart for community and mission. The ideal candidate will have a passion for serving others, strong leadership skills, and a solid background in hospitality. This is a full-time role, however a part time would be considered for the right applicant.

Key Responsibilities

  • Passion for service: A heart for serving others and contributing to our mission of community and faith.
  • Oversee daily operations of the cafe, ensuring a welcoming environment for all.
  • Manage and train staff, volunteers, and work experience students.
  • Maintain high standards of food safety and customer service.
  • Manage budgets, inventory, and supplier relationships.
  • Manage change, improving efficiency, updating menu as needed.
  • Customer service focused. Ensuring an exceptional customer experience.
  • Outstanding coffee and food preparation.
  • Develop partnerships with local organizations to enhance community engagement.
  • Plan and coordinate community events and activities.
  • Potential for ministry opportunities, including church planting, youth ministry, homeless ministry and other community projects.

Essential Criteria

  • Proven experience in hospitality management.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • A heart for community and ministry.
  • Available Monday-Saturday from 5:30 am.
  • Food Safety Supervisors Certificate or willingness to obtain.
  • Drivers Licence
  • Current senior first aid, or willingness to obtain.
  • Have a current Working With Children Check number (WWCC).
  • Successful National Police Check.
  • Ministry experience is advantageous but not essential.
