In August this year, RISE brought together a vibrant group of 67 leaders and mentors at The Tops Conference Centre, offering an opportunity for learning and friendship between the next generation of Churches of Christ leaders across Australia.
Spearheaded by the Churches of Christ QLD team and supported by other states, the gathering included 46 Emerging Leaders and 21 Mentors, representing every state and territory across the country.
The Heart of RISE
When asked about the purpose of RISE, Program Director and Church Engagement Leader for Churches of Christ QLD, Lachie Ashworth, reflected,
“RISE aims to be a watering hole for emerging Churches of Christ leaders from across the country, irrespective of ministry or context. It’s a chance to gather, form strong relationships, and be equipped and inspired for future leadership together in God’s Church.”
This year, RISE focused on creating spaces for leaders to reflect on their personal journeys, gain practical tools for ministry, and build a sense of community among those who may often feel isolated in their leadership roles.
Keynote Highlights: Soul Care in Ministry
Jason Perkins from the Irresistible Church Network led the keynote sessions, sharing deeply from his own ministry experience, particularly his discovery of the importance of soul care. Jason introduced tools and litmus tests for tracking personal health, challenging leaders to prioritise proactive care for themselves as they continue to lead others.
These sessions were further explored in small mentoring groups, where mentors facilitated discussions on soul care in ministry. These conversations provided spaces for deep sharing and encouragement between Emerging Leaders.
A Reflection on RISE 2024
For many emerging leaders, RISE was a powerful moment of realisation — “Oh, it’s not just me?” As they shared their ministry journeys, these leaders kindled new friendships across states, realising that they all have much in common.
As RISE continues every second year, its vision remains clear: to nurture and support the emerging Churches of Christ leaders across Australia, equipping them to lead with passion, health, and purpose for years to come.
